Hank Williams - Lost Highway (1951)
***********************************************
I was surprised to learn that Hank didn’t write this one. The original was by Leon Payne, 1948. What a great cover in any event—this recording was issued with “Uncut Magazine: Songs That Influenced Bob Dylan (2005)” and appears to be a performance on radio, probably 1951 or 1952.
- “When I pass by, all the people say, there goes another boy, down the lost highway.”
- “For the day we met, I went astray. Rolling down that lost highway.”
Even others’ songs sound great when Hank sang ‘em.
The Theme Is Songs That Equal or Better the Original
(Hank says: Repent ye for the kingdom of heaven is near.)
